Facing onto the Place des Terreaux in Lyon, the opulent building that currently houses the Lyon Museum of Fine Arts dates back to the 17th century. Formerly serving as the Royal Abbey where Benedictine nuns lived, the venue was converted into a museum in 1801 and later renovated to its current state between 1988 and 1998.
In addition to the important works of art contained within, Lyon’s Museum of Fine Arts also features a lovely and serene sculpture garden called the Jardin du Palais Saint-Pierre.
